Houston, TX (Sports Network) - For the second time in two months, Houston Texans offensive lineman Tony Boselli underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder. The procedure was performed Monday with the hope of releasing scar tissue in the area of the anterior and posterior shoulder joint, which was limiting Boselli's continued rehabilitation for the earlier surgery. The 30-year-old Boselli, who played just three games last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars before being placed on injured reserve, hopes to be ready in time for the start of the regular season. A timetable for his recovery will be better determined in 4-to-6 weeks. Boselli, the first player selected by the Texans in the February expansion draft, figures to be the cornerstone of a talented offensive line. Houston weighed the risk, along with a huge salary, but felt that his combination of physical skills and leadership ability outweighed the injury concerns. When healthy, Boselli has been one of the NFL's elite tackles, allowing just 15 1/2 sacks in his seven year career. However, since 1999 the talented lineman has had surgery on his right knee, ankle and both shoulders. Boselli, who was the first college draft pick of the Jaguars in 1995, was made available to the Texans because of injuries, along with a salary cap figure of $7.5 million.
